Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies

Trail Ride to Little Elbow River

Step into the heart of the Rocky Mountains on this unforgettable 5-day backcountry riding adventure. Just south of Banff, Kananaskis Country stretches across more than 4,200 square kilometres of rugged wilderness—towering peaks, shimmering lakes, alpine meadows, and wildlife-rich valleys.

Your all-inclusive journey begins in Boundary Ranch, where you will meet your fellow adventurer riders. After a warm welcome, horse assignment, and a short orientation, the adventure starts with a rewarding five-hour ride up the Evan-Thomas Valley to your base camp in the Little Elbow region.

Each day brings a new horizon—riding over dramatic passes, weaving through quiet, rugged forest trails, or taking in panoramic viewpoints that few travellers ever get to see. There are plenty of breaks for photos, storytelling, and picnic lunches. And on warm days? Slip off your boots and take a refreshing dip in pristine, secluded mountain lakes.

Your backcountry camp offers a perfect balance of rustic living and real comfort. Sleep in spacious canvas tents with sturdy cots, and savour hearty, home-cooked meals prepared over a wood-burning stove. Gather in the dining tent for shared meals and stories, then unwind by the fire as the stars begin to glow above the peaks.

Every day is its own adventure—ride, hike, photograph, linger by the river, or simply sit back and soak up the mountain sun. And each evening, there’s no better way to wrap up the day than a lively singsong around the campfire before turning in under the crisp alpine night sky.
